Their album\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;Different Light&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was out at this time, so I played it at work, Fantastic. I loved the title track,\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Following&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Let It Go&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0I was now a fan &#8230; here we go the\u00a0<strong><em><u>Bangles;<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em><u>&gt; How&#8217;s The Air Up There: 1980 -1982 &lt;<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0 The band started out as\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;The Bangs&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>1980<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<strong><em><u>Susanna Lee Hoffs<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(17 Jan 1959:<a href=\"http:\/\/l.a.ca\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/L.A.CA&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1535305422224000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEz0JM0nc6dOtFhfkfcTjOizlM1mQ\">L.A.CA<\/a>.)<\/em>\u00a0on\u00a0<em>Lead Vocals &amp; Rhythm Guitar<\/em>\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Vicki&#8221; Victoria\u00a0Anne Theresa Peterson -Cowsill<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>(11 Jan 1958: L.A. CA.)<\/em>\u00a0on\u00a0<em>Lead Guitar &amp; Vocals<\/em>\u00a0with her younger sister\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Debbi&#8221;\u00a0 Deborah Mary Peterson:<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(22 Aug 1961: L.A. CA.)<\/em>\u00a0on\u00a0<em>Drums &amp; Vocals,<\/em>\u00a0the trio found each other in a ad in the local music publication, they rehearsed at Hoffs loft in CA.\u00a0<em>(Hoffs told me in 2007)<\/em>\u00a0The band&#8217;s 1st record was the 45 Single\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Getting Out Of Hand b\/w Call On Me&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0released in\u00a0<strong><em><u>1981<\/u><\/em><\/strong>on\u00a0<strong><em><u>DownKiddie Records<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. In\u00a0<strong><em><u>1982<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the band is signed to\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;Faulty Products Records&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and releases the\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Self Titled EP&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0, the band write 4 of the 5 songs on this EP, which is later re-released\u00a0<strong><em><u>1983<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong><em><u>I.R.S. Records<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. This is the only release with the original Bassist\u00a0<strong><em><u>Annette Celia Genevieve Zilinskas<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(6 Nov 1962: Van Nuys, CA.)\u00a0<\/em>who would return to the band in<strong><em><u>2018<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. The single for this EP was\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Real World (remix)&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0this version was released on the 6 song CD re-release, there is also a music video for this song. The song\u00a0I chose to play on my\u00a0<strong><em><u>WDGY Radio show<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;I&#8217;m In Line&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0sung by Debbi, although I also really like\u00a0<strong><em>&#8220;Want You&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0from this release.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em><u>&gt; All About You: 1984 -85 &lt;<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0 In the Summer of &#8217;83,\u00a0<strong><em>Zilinskas<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0departs &amp; one\u00a0<strong><em><u>Michael Steele<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(Susan Nancy Thomas: 2 Jun 1955; Pasadena, CA)<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong><em><u>Original\u00a0<\/u><\/em><\/strong>Bassist with\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;The Runaways&#8217;\u00a0<\/u><\/em><\/strong>in\u00a0<strong><em><u>1975<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<em>Joan Jett &amp; Sandy West,<\/em>\u00a0<em>(Steele left in &#8217;75 before &#8216;The Runaways&#8217; 1st release),<\/em>\u00a0takes over the Bass duties. The band&#8217;s 2nd release\u00a0<strong><em><u>\u2019All Over The Place&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong><em>Columbia Records<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is released in\u00a0<strong><em><u>May 1984,<\/u><\/em><\/strong>the band writes 9 of the 11 songs, and releases the singles\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Hero Takes A Fall b\/w Where Were You When I Needed You (non-lp)&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 and then\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Going Down To Liverpool b\/w the instrumental (non-lp)&#8221;.<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The band does 1 song in the film\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;The Goonies&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0released in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Jun 1985<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with the\u00a0<strong><em><u>single &#8220;I Got Nothing b\/w Dave Grusin&#8221;,<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the band also appears in Cyndi Lauper&#8217;s video from this film as well. The song I chose for my\u00a0<strong><em><u>WDGY show<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Going Down To Liverpool&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0sung by Debbi, I also really like\u00a0<strong><em><u>\u201cAll About You\u201d<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0from this album.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em><u>&gt; September Gurls: 1986 -87 &lt;<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em><u>1986<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is the year of the\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;Bangles&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0as they release their 3rd album\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;Different Light&#8217;\u00a0<\/u><\/em><\/strong>the band writes 7 of the 12 songs, and releases a whopping 4 singles starting with\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Manic Monday b\/w In A Different Light&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<em>(written by Prince as he was seeing Hoffs at\u00a0 the time)<\/em>\u00a0a\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em><u>#2 hit<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on the Billboard Charts in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Apr 1986<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. The 2nd single\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;If She Knew What She Wants b\/w Angels Don&#8217;t Fall In Love&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0charts at\u00a0<strong><em><u>#29<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Jul 1986<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and finally their signature song\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Walk Like An Egyptian b\/w Not Like You&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0their 1st\u00a0<strong><em><u>#1<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on the charts in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Dec 1986<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0&amp; then the 4th single<strong><em><u>&#8220;Walking Down Your Street b\/w Let It Go&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0reaches\u00a0<strong><em><u>#11<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Apr 1987<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. The song I chose for the\u00a0<strong><em><u>WDGY<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Show was &#8220;Different Light&#8221; one of my all time favorite songs (dedicated to someone I used to know), I also really like\u00a0<strong><em><u>\u201cLet It Go\u201d.<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometime in\u00a0<strong><em><u>1990<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0a cassette is released with the demo versions of many Top 40 Hits of the day, one is\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Walk Like An Egyptian&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0sung by\u00a0<strong><em>Marti Jones<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0recorded in\u00a0<strong><em>1984<\/em><\/strong>. The band performs on the TV show\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Old Gray Whistle Test&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on the BBC in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Jul &#8217;86<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. Their concert\u00a0<em>from 29 Oct 1986 in Pittsburgh, PA.\u00a0@ the Syria Mosque,<\/em>\u00a0was broadcast on\u00a0<strong><em><u>MTV&#8217;s &#8220;Sat. Nite Concert&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. In\u00a0<strong><em>May 1987<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Hoffs plays\u00a0<em>&#8220;Molly Morrison&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0in the Film\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;The ALLnighter&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0later this same year in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Nov &#8217;87<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the band supply the film\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Less Than Zero&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with the song &amp; single\u00a0<strong><em><u>\u201dHazy Of Winter b\/w Joan Jett&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0which rises to\u00a0<strong><em><u>#2<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Feb 1988<\/u><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em><u>&gt; Crash And Burn: 1988 &#8211; 1990 &lt;<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0 The band release their 4th and final album\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8216;Everything&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Oct. 1988<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, this time co-writing the entire album, and releasing 4 singles from this LP, the 1st being\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Eternal Flame b\/w What I Meant To Say (non-lp)&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0their 2nd\u00a0<strong><em><u>#1<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Apr 1989<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0followed by &#8220;<strong><em><u>In Your Room b\/w Bell Jar&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0which climbs to\u00a0<strong><em><u>#5<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Jan 1989<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0, then the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0single\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Be With You b\/w Let It Go&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>which charts at\u00a0<strong><em><u>#30<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Jun 1989<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, then finally\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;I&#8217;ll Set You Free b\/w Watching The Sky&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. The song I chose for my radio show was\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Be With You&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, though I also really like\u00a0<strong><em><u>\u201cSome Dreams Come True\u201d<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. Interesting note, former KISS Guitarist\u00a0<strong><em><u>Vinnie Vincent<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0plays on the song\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Make A Play For Her Now&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<em>(he had left The Invasion, by this time)<\/em>\u00a0the ladies also provide astounding backing vocals on the\u00a0<strong><em><u>Tom Petty<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0song:\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Waiting For Tonight&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0which unfortunately goes unreleased for several years. The band appears on\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;SNL&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong><em><u>3 Dec 1988<\/u><\/em><\/strong>performing the standard 2 songs. While I was still living in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Des Moines, IA<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. the band plays Ames in &#8217;89, I didn&#8217;t get to go the show, but I do own photos from this show, here is the setlist;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<strong><em><u>11 April 1989 Tuesday in Ames, Iowa @ Hilton Coliseum<br \/>\n<\/u>A Hazy Shade of Winter<br \/>\nGlitter Years<br \/>\nLive<br \/>\nManic Monday<br \/>\nCrash and Burn<br \/>\nComplicated Girl<br \/>\nCreeque Alley<br \/>\nIf She Knew What She Wants<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll Set You Free<br \/>\nBell Jar<br \/>\nMake a Play for Her Now<br \/>\nSomething to Believe In<br \/>\nEternal Flame<br \/>\nSome Dreams Come True<br \/>\nAngels Don&#8217;t Fall in Love<br \/>\nIn Your Room<br \/>\nHero Takes a Fall<br \/>\nWatching the Sky<br \/>\nWalking Down Your Street<br \/>\nWalk Like an Egyptian<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nBy\u00a0<strong><em><u>1990<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the band had split, in part due to Columbia Records pushing\u00a0<strong><em><u>Hoffs<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0to the front of the band as the lead singer which the others were somewhat resentful of.\u00a0 The\u00a0<strong><em><u>VHS &amp; CD &#8216;Greatest Hits&#8217;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is released in\u00a0<strong><em><u>May 1990<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to complete their contract.\u00a0<strong><em><u>Hoffs<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0goes solo for 2 CDs &amp; worked with Matthew Sweet for 3 CDs and some soundtracks.\u00a0Vicki Peterson forms the &#8216;Continental Drifters&#8217; for 4 CDs with Susan Cowsill.\u00a0\u00a0Debbi Peterson forms &#8216;Kindred Spirit&#8217; for 2 CDs. As Hoffs &amp; Sweet are working on the\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Austin Powers&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0film in\u00a0<strong><em><u>1998<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, the band reunites for a song used in the film\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Get That Girl&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0they embark on a reunion tour in\u00a0<strong><em><u>2000<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, releasing the CD\u00a0<strong><em><u>\u201dDoll Revolution&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Sep 2003<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, then later releasing the CD\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Glitter Years&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>2005<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. I saw the band live on\u00a0<strong><em><u>23 Aug 2007 1st Ave in MPLS<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. I met the 3 Bangles &amp; their new Bass Player\u00a0<strong><em><u>Abby Travis<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(10 Nov 1969 L.A. CA.)<\/em>. The last album the\u00a0<strong><em><u>Bangles<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0have released is\u00a0<strong><em><u>&#8220;Sweetheart Of The Sun&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em><u>Sep 2011<\/u><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So there you have it fans, a brief history of the Bangles.
