{"id":831,"date":"2016-06-10T22:20:28","date_gmt":"2016-06-10T22:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrzeros.com\/blog\/?p=831"},"modified":"2016-06-10T22:20:28","modified_gmt":"2016-06-10T22:20:28","slug":"psychogello-vol-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrzeros.com\/blog\/psychogello-vol-5\/","title":{"rendered":"PsychoGello Vol. #5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>MrZerro&#8217;s PsychoGello Vol.5<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>BUZZ Newspaper Article Jun-Jul 2016 (#63-pG) <\/u><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nSo for my birthday this year (29th) I was lucky enough to make my 5th appearance on the <strong><em><u>KFAI 90.3 fm radio show &#8220;The Pop-Shop&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> where host DJ Izzy allows me to take over the show, which I call &#8220;Mr. Zero&#8217;s PsychoGello&#8221; my mission is to play songs by famous artists &amp; not-so-famous artists, that dot not\u00a0 usually\u00a0 get air play, to give the listener something totally different, so I thought I would list my playlist &amp; explain a little about the songs. you can listen to the link on KFAI.org &#8220;The Pop Shop&#8221; 23 May 2016.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"7 Years for Mr. Zero&#039;s\" width=\"605\" height=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-uKD_BVsk4M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<strong><em><u>Trashmen: &#8220;Goofy Foot&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> recorded live Jul &#8217;64 in Wis on Sundazed, my Dad used to sit in with this band back in &#8217;63, so I like to pay homage to these local heroes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Roy Orbison: &#8220;Dream Baby&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from 1962 on Capitol, I 1st heard this song done by The Beatles on the BBC, McCartney sang it beautifully.<br \/>\n<strong><em><u>WHO:<\/u><\/em><\/strong> &#8220;Daddy Rollin Stone&#8221; from\u00a0 1965 on Brunswick an out-take from &#8216;Sing My Generation&#8217; I 1st heard this song from the &#8216;New York Dolls&#8217; on their &#8217;75 Live LP, so far I like every version I have heard of this song.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Rolling Stones: &#8220;I&#8217;m Free&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> 1965 Decca Sep 1965 &#8216;Out Of Our Heads&#8217; from Sep &#8217;65 on Decca, I always loved the mid-60s Stones, too bad it was ruined by being used in a car commercial.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Kinks: &#8220;Sunny Afternoon&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from Jun 1966\u00a0\u2019Face To Face&#8217; on\u00a0PYE a fairly dark &amp; downbeat tune from the usually upbeat Brothers Davis, I wish they could have agreed on doing the re-union tour.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Beatles: &#8220;And Your Bird Can Sing&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from the ill-fated &#8220;Butcher Cover&#8221; also known as &#8220;Yesterday &amp; Today&#8221; from\u00a0Aug &#8217;66 the 1 Beatles LP\u00a0that cost Capitol a lot of money.<\/p>\n<p>We The People: &#8220;By The Rule&#8221; from 1966 on Challenge Records a 45 Single only, no full full LP from this great band.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Byrds: &#8220;World Turns All Around Her&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from &#8216;Turn, Turn, Turn&#8217; on Columbia from Dec &#8217;65 a beautiful love song by Gene Clark, reportedly one of the reason McGuinn began to write more songs as Clark was making more money than rest because of royalties.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Rascals: &#8220;Find Somebody&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from Jul &#8217;67 from the Atlantic LP &#8216;Groovin&#8217; one of the few lead vocals form Eddie Brigati, in 1966- 67 most of the Billboard #1 Spots were held by The Monkees or this band.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Boyce &amp; Hart: &#8220;Where Angels Go&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> released in Mar 1968 on A&amp;M from the film of the same name the 2nd soundtrack for B&amp;H. I told Hart&#8217;s Grandson I&#8217;d play this for him that night.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Nilsson: &#8220;Together&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from\u00a0\u2019Ariel Ballet&#8217;\u00a0in Jul &#8217;68 on RCA, Jones &amp; Co. performed this song live\u00a0 in \u201969 &amp; there are 2 other Monkees&#8217; related songs on this 1 LP, &#8220;Mr. Richland&#8217;s Favorite Song&#8221; &amp; &#8220;Daddy&#8217;s Song&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Monkees: &#8220;Time &amp; Time Again&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> an out-take from &#8216;Changes&#8217; written by Bill Chadwick who wrote 10 other songs for the Band, recorded in May &#8217;69 from LP &#8216;Missing Links&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>David Bowie: &#8220;Oh You Pretty Things&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> found on &#8216;Hunky Dory&#8217; from\u00a0 Dec &#8217;71 on RCA, I 1st heard this one from Peter Noone of &#8216;The Hermits&#8217; I believe it was his 1st solo 45.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>George Harrison: &#8220;Wah Wah&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from &#8216;All Things\u00a0Must Pass&#8217; on Capitol from Nov &#8217;70 Capitol, George was always my favorite\u00a0Beatle, he wrote this one about the headache he received from McCartney, who constantly was telling him how to play on Paul&#8217;s songs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>T -Rex: &#8220;Jeepster&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from Sep &#8217;71 found on &#8220;Electric Warrior&#8221; on Reprise, thanks to the intronetts, Mark Bolan is\u00a0more popular now than he ever was when he was when he was alive <em><u>(Feld died on 16 Sep 1977)<\/u><\/em> &amp; my home town hero Tommy Bolin is usually confused with Marc.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Jorma Kaukonen: &#8220;Genesis&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from &#8217;74 on Grunt, &#8216;Quah&#8217; is his 1st Solo LP after &#8216;Jefferson Airplane&#8217; this one is dedicated to Mr. Zero&#8217;s long time Model Missy Marrz.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Gypsy: &#8220;Unlock The Gates&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from another Minneapolis band, released in July &#8217;71 on Metromedia their 2nd LP &#8216;In The\u00a0 Garden&#8217;, also this local band\u00a0 has just released a DVD documentary, worth checking out. <em>(Dedicated to Ms. Jellybeans).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Tom Jones: &#8220;I Who Have Nothing&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from 1970 on Parrot, as a kid he was my Mom&#8217;s favorite (later it was Ricky Martin) I\u00a0love the haunting production of his early records.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Graham Nash: &#8220;Chicago &#8211; we can save the world&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> released in May &#8217;71 from &#8220;Songs For Beginners&#8221; on\u00a0Atlantic, he was in &#8216;CSN&amp;Y&#8217; as well as formerly of the &#8216;Hollies&#8217;\u00a0I have always felt this was his best work.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Steppenwolf: &#8220;Draft Resister&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from the LP &#8216;Monster&#8217; on Dunhill released in Nov &#8217;69, recently I was asked &#8220;When I was in Jr. High what was my favorite band?&#8221; thinking they knew the answer <em>(KISS or RUSH)<\/em> I informed them it was in fact this band! While all the\u00a0other kids were listening to the &#8216;Bee Gees&#8217; I was digging this.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Taj Mahal: &#8220;Take\u00a0A Giant Step&#8221; <\/u><\/em><\/strong>from 1969 on Columbia, an obscure Monkees cover. He also did a great song on The Stones &#8216;R&amp;R Circus&#8217; from Dec &#8217;68.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Curtis Mayfield: &#8220;Superfly&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from the soundtrack released in Jul on &#8217;72 Curtom, I just\u00a0 love this type of early 70&#8217;s R&amp;B, reminds me of when I used to work with Garius &amp; Zack back in 2007.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Stevie Wonder: &#8220;I Wish&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from &#8220;Songs In The Key Of Life&#8221; on Tamla \u00a0 released\u00a0in Dec &#8217;76, probably the last great song released before Disco &amp; &#8220;Urban Cowboy&#8221; ruined music for me.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Blues Magoos: There&#8217;s A Chance We Can Make It&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> from Apr &#8217;67 on Mercury the LP &#8220;Electric Comic Book&#8221; hailing from The Bronx, Pepe&#8217; Castro was KISS&#8217; Ace Frehley&#8217;s neighbor in the Bronx, I sent Pepe&#8217; a message I&#8217;d play this for him that night (he did thank me).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Boston Tea Party: &#8220;Straighten Up &amp; Fly Right&#8221;<\/u><\/em><\/strong> released in 1968 on Flick Disc, I found\u00a0 out about this\u00a0 band as they did the original version of B&amp;H&#8217;s &#8220;Words&#8221; in &#8217;66.<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it my 5th stint &#8220;On The Air&#8221; hopefully I will do my 6th guest spot\u00a0 this fall.
